Our new Myrmecia pyriformis queen
MATILDA our newest Myrmecia queen was caught a few weeks ago after their nuptial flight. In these photos you can see a large clutch of eggs that she's been laying for the last week or so. At last count there was 23.
These queens are notorious for eating a few eggs before they hatch so hopefully we will still have a few left once they make it to larvae stage.
We'll be sure to keep you guys updated on how she's going.
In an unfortunate case of bad timing, a live TV interview in Australia has been interrupted by a mating swarm of ants during their nuptial flight.
