This week's photo of the week was taken by us a few weeks back.
It's one of our favourite ants, Leptomyrmex erythrocephalus, commonly referred to as spider ants for obvious reasons. We stumbled on this nest whilst out looking for Myrmecia queens.
We've been on the lookout for queens for a while now but as they're wingless it's proven to be quite difficult. We won't give up though.
